Biography

My name is Joel Kamensky, otherwise known as "Primo". As a kid I grew to love art at a young age. When I was around 10, I realized I was quite the little cartoonist. From the Sunday paper to comic books, I was drawing Godzilla to garfield & posting it up on the refrigerator.

As I grew older, I taught myself to paint and got very into the calligraphy side of art. Upon Graduation from High School, I fell further away from art, and tried the whole [
being smart and going to college] thing. Needless to say, it wasn't for me. I was falling back in love with art After a few years of no practice, I couldn't care about anything other than creating.

I gave myself a name, Primo Designs & told myself to never look back. [
Why Primo? What does it mean?] From the Italian origin, it means exceptionally good of its kind; first-class; Highly or most valuable. As a rookie designer, it's a bold name to choose, but I knew I was going to push myself until I was indeed, the most valuable.

At 19 years old, trying to figure out how to break into the design industry, I began my own schooling. I taught myself how to network with the nightlife industry, without being able to actually get IN the venues. Utilized my social media skills, and marketed myself to the right people. During this process, I drilled myself with Photoshop, studied all of my favorite artists, until I found my niche & style. Shortly enough, after one year in business, I was doing business with some of the biggest nightlife accounts in Pittsburgh.

My first big client, Privilege, gave me the opportunity to design some of the biggest DJ's in the country, such as [DJ Scene, DJ Roctakon, Dj Spider, DJ Vice & many more]. This took my career to a whole different level. Knowing that anything done for these national acts would be seen by a good bit of the country, I made sure what I created was gold. While networking with these DJ's and meeting all the right people, I began breaking out to Miami, Detroit, LA, Vegas & San Francisco.

Since then, I've done nothing but fall more in love with the art of Graphic Design. Everyday is a lesson. I study so many different types of art that tackling new challenges becomes easier and easier to accomplish. I love a good challenge, & I want more.

In 2010 I've really began branding my name and my style. With a fresh new logo & my [
im kind of creative®] campaign, I'm ready for the next step. I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I'm ready to reaveal.

Im kind of creative®, to some people, is a bit confusing. They ask, [
You're very creative. Why downplay yourself?] It's a simple answer really. I'm an artist. I'm stubborn. I'm picky. I'm never completely happy with anything I create, even if it's gold. I'm kind of creative. I don't see myself as the best. I may be to some, but to me, I will always have room to improve. I hope that I never get to the point of [satisfaction]. I will continue to create, learn, and evolve.
